When The Lights, Go Up, In The City
We noticed crews today out replacing arm and light on the old (taller) street lights, with a more decorative arm & light. This replacement has been going on for some time, many lights in our downtown streets have already been replaced. In the photo above crews are replacing the light at the SW corner of 12th & E, while another crew has just completed the switch at the NE corner.
Apologies that this blogger couldn’t get a better close up on the new street lights. The full size photo above shows the completed NE corner light a little bit better.
The photo above shows the old style lights that came down. This bloggers thinks these new lights look much nicer in our neighborhood than the old ones. Workers could not confirm if all the older lights would eventually be replaced.

I like these lights.
The topic reminds me of the huge outdoor lights that Doug Jemal installed over his historic buildings on 7th between G & H St NW.
I would love it if more streets in DC had that amount of lighting.
MUCH, MUCH nicer than the older ones.
ever since mayor barry was dethroned, this city has been getting better and better, even if it’s in the ‘little touches’.
i can’t verify that all of the old-style lights will be replaced, but i do know that these have been discussed at many of the neighborhood meetings that i’ve been to that ddot has held. the old ones are called cobra-head lamps, and the new ones are called teardrop lamps. i agree, the teardrop lamps look MUCH better.

I welcome the lights with Open Arms.
