Limited Restaurant Week Menus
We tend not to go out very often over restaurant week. Much as we love the idea, we’re not big fans of the (often times) limited menus, crowded restaurants, and the fact that we seldom want appetizer, meal, and dessert in one sitting. Of course you’re not limited to the restaurant week menu, you can just order al la carte as you would any other night at one of these restaurants.
Well you can at most restaurants. We went to Bibiana for lunch yesterday and planned to skip the restaurant week menu. We love the various Bibiana pizza offerings, so we were crushed when we sat down to discover they were serving the restaurant week menu only. No pizza for us.
Our meal was very good, just a lot heavier than we wanted for lunch (and it wasn’t pizza). We haven’t gone out for a restaurant week lunch in a while, is this a common occurence?

I typically avoid Restaurant Week. The last couple times I tried RW, the menu selections were limited, the portions were tiny and the restaurants completely packed.
When I was in the American Indian museum cafe at the weekend I noticed they had a sign saying they were taking part in restaurant week – a three course meal for $20. If this includes all their normal food it would be good value.
RW used to be good fun and the food was right off the regular menus. now I’ve found it to be hit or miss but I bet the restaurants do great business with it.
Agree with Columbo. Even without restaurant week you can pay for a $6-7 appetizer and $20-25 main course and be very satisfied without being too full at a lower price than the $35 dinner. If you want a great value for $35, I’d suggest Cafe Atlantico’s Sunday Latino Dim Sum Brunch for the same price, but it consists of 14 smaller courses – now that’s a taste experience in Penn Quarter.

I love restaurant week. The first time I did it I was reminded of a trip to Paris. The menu, meal and prices were all laid out. Sometimes I like that!
