Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC. Have neighborhood thoughts? Leave them in the comments!
Penn Quarter – The sign is up, the furniture is in, and the bar is looking mighty fine. Carmine’s, the neighborhood’s about-to-open 7th Street Italian restaurant, even has a separate entrance for VIPs. (The Carmine’s website is saying late August for the opening.) [Politico]
Penn Quarter/Mount Vernon Triangle – ANC 6C’s Alcoholic Beverage Licensing Committee meets tomorrow evening. [The Triangle]
Penn Quarter/Chinatown – Free Wi-Fi hotspots are coming to the neighborhood for the Microsoft partners conference at the Convention Center between July 11 and 15, courtesy of the DC government. [WaBizJo]
Chinatown – A great history lesson about the building that now houses Nando’s Peri-Peri chicken restaurant and various offices above it at 819 7th St NW. It used to be a furniture store back in the day. [Streets of Washington]
Penn Quarter/Chinatown – Speaking of free Wi-Fi, Starbucks has gone the free route as of July 1. With four locations in our neighborhood, free Wi-Fi at McDonald’s, and free Wi-Fi in the American Art Museum (Kogod Courtyard (1st floor)/Luce Center (3rd floor)), there are heaps of free Internet access points. [DSL Reports]
U Street – A roundup of recently opened businesses on the U Street corridor. [U Street Girl]
NoMa – An update on the Gales School (Mass Ave near Union Station) RFP for redevelopment and its becoming a homeless shelter. [DC Metro Urban Diary]

boo, boo, boo on the “VIP entrance” at carmine’s.
just what politicians need—another way to inflate their egos and make them think that they come from a better breeding stock than the rest of the people in this country.
that just sucks.
Yeah screw VIPs, if you’re a politician then you work for us, the people. They can eat lasagna in the same part of the restaurant as everyone else.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

The Forever 21 signs are up on 11th street in the middle of the block. If that’s another entrance to the store, then it will be huge when it opens.
