Another Construction Fence Comes Down
A pleasant sight greeted us on our morning commute on Tuesday. The sidewalk and left lane of traffic on 10th street in front of Ford’s Theatre were open, no more construction fences. As downtown becomes Jersey-barriered for the inauguration, it is so nice to see one of our long disrupted streets opened up again.

Speaking of sidewalks reopening…
The sidewalk in front of the Dumont Condos has finally opened again. However, there are 2 problems:
1. There’s a fence between the Dumont and the new office building next door, so the sidewalk isn’t really that open
2. They forgot (?) to put any curb cuts at 4th and Mass
The Jan. 31 event is actually not a public event. But the public will have a chance to see the renovated Ford’s Theatre during several events in February:
*Feb. 3 — opening of “The Heavens Are Hung In Black,” a world premiere play about Lincoln. Runs through March 8.

*Feb 12 and 16 — open houses from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The theatre then opens for regular daytime visits on Feb. 17. Can’t wait!
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

January 31 is Family & Friends day (aka soft opening). From 9AM to 11:30AM. Same day tickets only. No ranger talk. Just a chance to experience the new lobby and theater.
BTW for tourist attending the ranger talks:
Starting Feb 17: free, same day tickets will be distributed at the box office starting at 8:30am. Timed tickets are for both the theater and Petersen House. Seating capacity of the theater is 600. At least 20% tickets (120) for every talk will be held for same day distribution. The line will start at the ticket box, go south on 10th street, and then east on E street.
Also noteworthy:
1. The downstairs museum will not open until later this spring.
2. Tickets are required at all times for Petersen House. Sorry to say, this will cut down on the number of tourist who see this site. Ok, fewer buses … but also fewer $$$ for the neighborhood.
