Asia Nine Is Opening At Some Point
PQ Living readers Cat and Nicola wrote in to point us to a ZagatBuzz update on Asia Nine’s opening on E Street. The post says something about opening in early March but the lack of accuracy we’ve had in predicting restaurant openings has us wondering if early April is more in line with reality. Maybe a few Artisan residents can give us the straight scoop!

From TheListAreYouOnIt.com:
“Asia Nine Restaurant – This modern Asian eatery is open on the ground floor of Penn Quarter’s Artisan condo. Chef Boonrod Yotmanee is in the kitchen overseeing a noodle bar, an oyster bar and a range of Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese food. Chef Yotmanee’s brother, Suthin Yotmanee, is the sushi chef. (915 E Street, NW; 703.339.9775)”
It was not open when I walked by last night, but it looked like the tables and chairs were set up.
From Zagats January coming soon….”Sei, an Asian niche in the bustling Penn Quarter, will serve sushi and inventive small and larger plates along with sake and wine when it opens in February (444 7th St. NW)”
Today, the “for lease” sign is still up and last time I looked inside did not see any construction started. Any updates?
I’ve tried Mazu several times for happy hour at 11th and New York, next to Sushi Aoi. It opened maybe 2 weeks ago. Nice happy hour from 4:30 – 7:00. Half-price glasses of wine, and bottled beer. Great $1 or $2 yakitori menu! Solid addition to the neighborhood.
I’m from Flash Communications–we do PR for Asia Nine. I JUST got word yesterday it will open Thursday, March 13. Final touches are being taken care of this weekend and early next week. There will be sushi-avaiailable at their sushi bar and throughout the restaurant, a sake menu. general menu includes a variety of Asian cuisine including Chinese, Japanese, korean, Vietnamese and mostly Thai. Cocktail lounge/bar with 2 plasma screen TVs–great creative cocktail and non-alcoholic beverages and dining, They also offer a to go option for food. Upstais is an intimate private dining room for small parties. It is looking great in there. We’re excited about it. Great addition to the neighborhood and to the city’s dining venues.

Linda Roth says that Asia Nine is slated to open this month, “offering mid-priced Chinese, Japanese and southeast Asia food and a killer sake list. There will be a sushi bar.”
The restuarants open as soon as they are able to, it’s not the Nats stadium with a grand opening day in mind.
