Current PSAs Under Review
The PQNA (Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association) informed us that the current PQ’s PSA (Patrol Service Area) is being looked at by the MPD (Metropolitan Police Department) for splitting into smaller areas. The Penn Quarter is in the First District and is part of PSA 101 which really encompasses most of the downtown area west of I-395 plus a sliver to the east of North Capitol Street. We’ll keep you posted if we hear more.

Indeed, few of us MVSq residents met with Lt. Robert Fulton from PSA 101 and he raised the possibility of splitting the PSA in 2 or 3. Hes pretty supoportive of this as the PSA is one of the largest, has about 125 officers, and encompasses Sursum Corda, Mount Vernon Triangle, Chinatown/PQ, & Downtown. Each section has different issues and most of the area continues to change rapidly. For those of you who dont know, PSA 101 meetings are split – east & west.
Thanks for the heads-up GPL. For too long insiders have been cutting deals and leaving the general public out of the process.

Related to this, there’s a survey the MPD is conducting right now about the community’s policing needs, feelings of safety, etc. We’ve been urged to fill out this survey to support our area having its own dedicated police team. The survey is on the MPD homepage under “MPD Community Survey 2007.”
