Downtown Holiday Market
Sean writes in to let us know that DC’s Downtown Holiday Market will be opening on Monday, December 11 and wrapping up on Friday, December 22. It will be even more convenient for Penn Quarter residents than last year as vendors will set up shop in front of the National Portrait Gallery on F Street between 7th and 8th Streets.

I agree with the last post. The market was very disappointing last year. A wide open space in the middle of winter made the situation even worse. We can only hope the new location will bring in better vendors.
Ditto posts 1 and 2. After traveling to Germany and France for Christmas 04 and seeing their Weinachtmarkts (Christmas markets) for the first time, last year’s downtown market was SAD SAD SAD. It was like Eastern Market on a horrible day.
The truly fun thing about the European markets is the food (and mulled wine). It keeps you toasty and attracts enough people to get a festive atmosphere.
I agree that last year’s market was not up to snuff — but it WAS the first year — and all events like this will grow with attendance and support (ie: buying from the merchants).
Before we all blast an idea, let’s consider supporting it — especially those activities that are being developed to help OUR neighborhood grow and thrive.
C’mon, isn’t this just an outdoor flea market? What are they planning on doing on F Street besides setting up booths to sell shlock? I might change my mind if there is something more interesting than what I can get at the mall.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Last year’s market was sad and abysmal. In my opinion, the problem was the location. This new location sounds great. Let’s hope it’s better this year.
