Dragon Themed Digital Billboards Rise At Gallery Place In Chinatown/Penn Quarter
Today we observed workers putting presumably final touches on a dragon headed digital billboard (clickable photos above) at the entrance to the Gallery Place alley (701 7th St NW) with blade signs facing both north and south down 7th Street NW slightly canted at an angle. This intersection is where G St NW tees into 7th Street NW between the Verizon Center and the main Gallery Place commercial/residential building.
Orange Barrel Media based in Columbus, Ohio, who books time on the signs didn’t quite get their way from their original plan from 2010 which would have had much taller and inappropriately positioned signs on the Gallery Place edifice itself. For a sense of how advertising is pitched by Orange Barrel and what this signage will look like once lit, one can visit this link and click on the second and third images from the rightmost image in the slideshow (the fifth and sixth images in the slideshow sequence).
Past experience with digital signage installed in the neighborhood leads us to believe there will be a bright burn in period followed by regular operations at a lower intensity.
