G20 Summit Taking Place In The PQ *updated*
UPDATE – Fri, Nov 14, 1 pm – We added photos on this page.
UPDATE – Thu, Nov 13, 9:10 am – We added a link to the DC Government’s list of street closures and a link to Metro’s announcement about the Judiciary Square station closure. Saturday, November 15 appears to be the day the meeting takes place all day on site.
Meetings don’t get much more global than the G20 Summit called by President Bush to discuss the global financial crisis. Just a reminder that it will be taking place in the Penn Quarter this weekend at our very own National Building Museum at 401 F Street NW. The NBM’s website indicates the building will be closed to the public starting from November 13 (tomorrow) to November 15 and there will no doubt be street closures to secure the immediate area for the heads of state of the many nations who we be participating in the meeting. We will post more information as we get it.

Already, tents are being erected on both sides of the building, and there is a power generating trailer spewing diesel exhaust. Often the Judiciary Square Metro F Street exit is closed when something is happening in the museum so it wouldn’t surprise me if that happens again.
I was amazed how quickly they set up. When I walked by last night trucks were lined up 4th St. to drop things off and lights were being set up (but nothing else). By 7am this morning, the massive tent structure was set up. They must have worked all night long. I couldn’t beleive all of the moving parts. I’m interested to see what progress they’ve made today when I get home tonight.

My building (Mass Court at 4th and Mass Ave) was given notice that we’ll only be able to enter 4th street with photo ID and to keep all windows facing 4th street closed for Friday and Saturday.
It’s a good thing that nobody lives in PQ. Otherwise, all these street closures & restrictions would inconvenience people who live in PQ & pay taxes.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I think the Judiciary Sq metro will be closed on Sat as well b/c of this.
