National Powwow This Weekend At The Verizon Center
This weekend a special event comes to our neck of the woods (or is it pavement?). Those who can truly claim Native American citizenship host their National Powwow at the Verizon Center (the Phone Booth) from August 10 to 12. If you haven’t visited a Native American reservation before then this is your opportunity to have the cultural experience come to you. Sponsored by the National Museum of the American Indian, the event schedule can be found here.

if you cant choke up the dough for a ticket… just sit outside and watch..the dancers often “practice” out back.. its amazing.. they always brings a really cool vibe to town..

Taking a day off work is the best, as there are not nearly as many spectators on weekdays, and you can intermingle with the dancers, drummers, children, families of the different Tribes. Everyone is very nice indeed. It’s the most wonderful thing to have a PowWow right Downtown here in Washington, DC, as I am never able to go to them elsewhere.
