New Chop’t Salad On 12th (618 12th St NW)
Walking the usual downtown routes, intrepid PQ Living writer Columbo reported in early July about a new Chop’t Creative Salad Company coming to 12th Street. Well folks…as you can see from the photo, real visible progress is now apparent at 618 12th Street, NW (between F and G Streets). The 7th Street Chop’t looks to be a success as we regularly see it doing good business. With 1199 F Street, a new office building 41(!) months in the making, coming online at the corner of this new location, we don’t see anything holding this Chop’t back either. Based on peeking inside and chatting up the workers who can be seen assembling tables, we see this location opening up within one month’s time. More cafe seating outside? We hope so and just in time for those beautiful Washington fall seasons.

Chop’t has been a great asset to the neighborhood. I know owners of other restaurants in the area that have had record sales months since Chop’t opened — the run-off from people who don’t want to stand in line is helping others. The new location will also help with the lines as many Metro Center-based workers will go to the new, closer one.
Still love the place — even if it is not the healthiest choice — it is still yummy, not too crazy expensive, consistent, and can be nutritious (avoid the delicious fried chicken.)

Yikes, if even salad deserves a health disclaimer I am doomed.
The Gallery Place restaurant is wonderful! And I have learned to call ahead with my order so I don’t have to wait in those lines … even if I plan on eating in. Please open one up further north in Shaw!
I wish they didn’t chop their salads into such tiny pieces! Still tasty, of course, but I prefer a more varied texture.
I find their salads to be bland and honestly not that good. The chopping makes them a watery mess and their vinegary dressings suck. But where the good looking women roam, so shall I.
Folks, the long lines are an illusion. The line starts 10 feet from the door and snakes outside. At Potbelly, a few doors down, the line starts at the far end of the restaurant so the line does not go outside. Basically, Chop’t didn’t want to waste floorspace on their queue.
I’ve gone there a few times, and learned to ask them to not chop it so much — and now, I can actually taste the ingredients.
I ask them not to chop or to just give a very light chop. Otherwise, it tastes like a coleslaw without the dressing.
Umm … some of us like the way they are chopped …. I’d rather have the smaller pieces than the large sections of lettuce and such. Hence the name “Chop’t”
the chopper will usually ask me if they’ve chopped the lettuce enough. sometimes I ask him/her to go easy on the chopping before they’re done. different strokes for different folks.
