Burberry And Zadig & Voltaire Show Up At CityCenter In Downtown DC
Above: Burberry retail bay cover facing north on I St NW
Overnight two new clothing retailers made their intent known at CityCenter, Burberry (facing north on I St NW) and Zadig & Voltaire (facing west and south on 10th St NW and Palmer Alley). These two join a host of other retailers that have signed on to retail spaces at the recently built CityCenter development. Hat tip goes out to PQ Living reader Becky to alerting us and snapping a few pics!
Burberry’s Connecticut Ave NW store space was being marketed which pointed to a move. The CityCenter Burberry will open in Summer 2014 per the signage; the filed permits reveal a 7,100 square foot space.
Zadig & Voltaire is supposed to open in April. To see the Zadig & Voltaire photos, check out our Facebook page.

National Cherry Blossom Festival In Effect Through April 13
We’d be remiss in not pointing out that the National Cherry Blossom Festival is now in full effect; the festival runs from March 20 through April 13 and hosts a number of wonderful events downtown and at the Tidal Basin.
You may have seen the cherry blossom decals (see photo above) on the windows of local businesses as they are part of the City in Bloom aspect of the Festival which encourages businesses to participate in the festivities. April 10 or April 13 are forecast as peak bloom days depending on who you consult.
The event schedule lists all the events associated with the festival and if you like music you can find a daily performance at the Tidal Basin Stage (located here where 15th Street NW hits Maine Ave SW). One upcoming downtown event that has our eye is a grand sake tasting on April 3 at the Carnegie Library. Sounds quite tasty.
See you around the Festival!

New Neighborhood Restaurant Opening Report – Toro Toro, Penn Commons, Cava Mezze Grill, And Jimmy John’s
Above: Cava Mezze Grill signage on H St NW
There are a few key developments we want to provide for Toro Toro, Penn Commons, Cava Mezze Grill, and Jimmy John’s (Gourmet Sandwiches). Thanks go out to our eagle eyed PQ Living readers for pointing out some of these developments.
1) Toro Toro (1300 I St NW) – Opening March 31 – This Richard Sandoval restaurant will be a Pan Latin steakhouse facing north towards Franklin Square. Preliminary menus and pricing have been provided to the press already so you can check those out here and here. The outfit will have two levels with the main dining room on the ground level and a basement second floor space that will be more like a club/lounge. Lunch and dinner service is planned to begin on March 31 with brunch starting in April. [Toro Toro website]
2) Penn Commons (6th and H St NW area) – Opening Summer 2014 – This Passion Food Hospitality group restaurant will be patterned after its first incarnation in Foggy Bottom, District Commons. We do know it will have a “long and pronounced bar” according to the press release. [Passion Food Hospitality Group website & District Commons website & menu]
3) Cava Mezze Grill (707 H St NW) – Opening Summer 2014 – This DC area chain will open in Summer of 2014 in the former Capital Q space that has been vacant since summer 2012. Think Zaytinya flavored food meeting Chiptole line assembly. This concept is loved by many of our friends so it makes sense for it to open in the food mecca of DC. [Cava Mezze Grill website & locator & menu]
4) Jimmy John’s (1208 G St NW) – Now Open – This sandwich chain shop is now open across from Macy’s in the 1200 block of G St NW. [Jimmy Johns website & locator & menu]

Why do we like it? It’s a low cost event, you get to meet downtown neighbors, bid on some great items from local businesses (silent and live auctions), and it all benefits a deserving charity. This year’s beneficiary is StreetWise Partners, an organization that brings low income individuals together with corporate volunteers to overcome employment barriers and transform lives.
