The Partisan Opens Tonight In Penn Quarter (709 D St NW)
We visited The Partisan (709 D St NW) last night for their pre-opening evening event and it looks to be a fantastic new addition to Penn Quarter. The decor, food, and drinks were all fantastic, and both staff and management were warm and welcoming. If you’ve been to the Red Apron during the day, you are in for a treat as the bar area with exposed brick in the back is like none other in Penn Quarter/downtown DC. The Partisan seems to be described as a “meat focused restaurant” which makes sense given the association with the Red Apron Butcher side of the venue that recently opened. (Contact information and menus linked via press coverage are at the bottom of this story.)
The bar opens this afternoon at 4 pm with dinner service to start at 5 pm. We posted a few links below including references to stories with both the dinner menu and the beer list. (The Savuto red wine blend from Odoardi was solid too. We appreciated that they will have temperature controlled wine by the glass.) We’ll return soon for a more in-depth experience but for now this is one promising place to visit.

&pizza Signage Shows Up At Old Freshii (1005 E St NW)
As we suspected it wouldn’t be long before someone would sign up for the old Freshii (and Gifford’s Ice Cream) space in the 1000 block of E Street NW. We reported on Freshii’s closure in early February.
The new taker is &pizza and the window signage is up! &pizza offers on demand pizza construction and cooking, and their menu can be found here. This location will be a good pre or post E Street Cinema dining destination.

Forming In Penn Quarter: A New Playwriting Group For Women
A Penn Quarter Living reader (and resident) contacted us about forming a playwriting group for women as follows:
The purpose of the group is twofold: one, to give playwrights an opportunity to hear their works in progress read aloud by other members of the group; and two, to discuss possibilities for submitting plays to the 2015 Women’s Voices Theatre Festival, a festival of the area’s theaters to showcase world-premier plays written by women.
Although the group would provide a means for exchanging information re. contests and venues, etc., it would have little structure. It would not be a workshop or critique group, but the participants would offer one another support and encouragement. Occasionally, established dramatists (male and female) would be invited to speak about their experiences.
How often the group would meet is still undetermined. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 26.
