Tadich Grill To Take Old TenPenh Space (1001 Penn Ave NW)
We’ve learned that the Tadich Grill, a San Francisco restaurant that started as a coffee stand during California’s Gold Rush in the mid 1800s, will open in the old TenPenh space at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW in early 2014. A definite seafood inclination tilts the Tadich Grill’s menu and it will be interesting to see if they adjust the menu to cater to Washingtonians.
We lamented the loss of TenPenh in June of 2011 after a good run but are glad to see plans for that corner of Pennsylvania Ave once more.

He’s the second person to formally announce his candidacy with the other being Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser. [Washington CityPaper] & [Wells for Mayor website]
Penn Quarter – Did you know that official flood maps show that a 100 year flood would put small part of Penn Quarter underwater? The floodwaters would follow the basic outline of the old Washington Canal (see map linked from article) and the contractor who is building the removable levee across 17th St NW just got replaced for running behind. Penn Quarter Crib of the Week – We’ve visited this week’s Crib of the Week floorplan many times and were jonesing after it when this building was but a developer’s drawing. This week’s installation is in the Sonata and is one of the “turret” units on the southeast corner of the building at 301 Massachusetts Ave NW. It’s Unit #603, has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a parking space – all filled with lots of natural light. It’s listed at 1,388 square feet for $724,900 under MLS number DC8030967. Remembering
National Police Week ends tomorrow and if you have not yet walked by the National Law Enforcement Memorial (on E st nw between 4th and 5th) we highly recommend you take the opportunity to do it today if at all possible. Seeing all those in-memory-of wreaths is a somber reminder of the men and women who died in the line of duty. Maybe take a few minutes to think about that deputy from your hometown who recently lost his life, or just to pay your respects to those who protect and serve.
