New Tavern Coming To 7th Street NW
UPDATE – January 14, 2010 – We understand the the Iron Horse Tap Room, 507 7th St NW, is planning to open tonight at 7 pm but visit at your own risk of its being open. They will also be open tomorrow starting at 4 pm. The web site is www.ironhorsedc.com and the phone number is 202-347-7665.
UPDATE – January 15, 2010 – It’s open!
The white sign mounted on orange backing (smaller circle in above photo) on a retail window can only mean one thing. A new establishment is coming (larger circle in above photo) at 507 7th Street NW; the two and a half level space spans two bay windows between the District Chophouse and the Red Velvet Cupcakery. The Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) sign provides the usual clues about what will go in the space as follows:
NATURE OF OPERATION
A Tavern with darts, shuffleboard tables and a juke box. Occupancy Load is 299.
HOURS OF OPERATION, SALE, SERVICE AND CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Sunday – Thursday: 12 pm – 2 am
Friday – Saturday: 12 pm – 3 am
This is a Retail Class “C” Tavern [PDF] application with a petition date of May 11, 2009 and a hearing date of May 26, 2009. Jump past the break for the sign closeup or click here for the actual application [PDF]. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
Hat tips go out to two observant, regular PQ Living readers for alerting us that the last empty retail spot in the 500 block of 7th Street looks to get filled.
We’re Number G! *
Every day you read about the death of print media and how online content is the future of publishing. As an online publication ourselves, we like the (minor) role we’re playing in the changing face of the media. Even so, there is something about print, and we think it’s always exciting for bloggers to find their work recognized in hard copy media.
Though the vultures may be circling the printing press, we were still excited to discover earlier this week that in the current issue of Washingtonian (April 2009, on newsstands now) Penn Quarter Living is listed as one of DC’s “Best Local Blogs” (Vol. 44, No. 7, Pg. 48…not that we bought 10 copies). While the write up is only a couple of sentences, we were flattered to be included. And if the Washingtonian can make such great decisions about worthy blogs, maybe this whole death of the printed word thing is greatly exaggerated.
* For those of you who haven’t seen a print copy (WHAT?), there were ten blogs listed as “Best Local Blogs” but instead of numbers they’re listed as A through J. PQLiving comes in at G. And we know we couldn’t have done it without our loyal readers, thank you!
Ashton Judiciary Square Gets A Face (750 3rd St NW)
We’ve been watching 750 3rd Street NW as Ashton Judiciary Square for over a year and construction on The Hanover Company rental apartment project appears to be on the glidepath for landing. A quick stroll by the site shows that the floor-to-ceiling glass has been installed in almost all the apartments and the construction site sign points visitors to a dedicated website with a ‘Contact Us’ form. A Spring 2009 opening date is indicated. It looks like we’re going to have more residents downtown soon and *that* we really like.
