Online Neighborhood Meeting About 7th Street Realignment And Car Closure Plan (Tue, Aug 25 At 6:30 pm)

The Penn Quarter Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC2C) will host a special online meeting with DDOT (DC Department of Transportation) open to interested parties the evening of Tuesday, August 25 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm to discuss and answer questions about the recently announced 7th Street realignment into car free lanes. Most of 7th Street from Pennsylvania Ave NW to Massachusetts Ave NW will only be open to buses, trucks, and bicycles per the plan and there is no question that this will affect both business and residential user of 7th Street. The impact may become even more apparent should the Capital One Arena start hosting events although that may be some time in the future. Expanded sidewalks and more streetside dining are part of the picture too. Although DDOT issued a public notice of intent on July 9, 2020, there were no neighborhood meetings or outreach conducted that we’re aware of making this a unique opportunity to discuss this subject publicly with DDOT. A few links can be found below with more information:

Construction activity began this week and the full implementation is planned to take effect on or about Monday, September 14. The PDF document diagramming the changes

Penn Quarter Paul Now Fully Closed (801 Penn Ave NW)

Posted by pqresident

There is some sad news for the neighborhood today. The Penn Quarter Paul (801 Penn Ave NW), one of the restaurants ringing the the Navy Memorial, is now closed for good. We learned this after reaching out to the company (h/t: a regular PQ Living reader). Paul opened in early May of 2011 and was one of our favorite morning spots to meet up with friends for a coffee and a pastry. The nearest Paul that remains open is the eatery on F Street between 13th and 14th St NW near Metro Center.

(Of note, the only restaurant still open in the Navy Memorial ring is Chop’t.)

We've missed you, have you missed us? Come visit! ?

Now open at: 13th & K, Metro Center, Farragut North, Foggy Bottom, Bethesda, and Tysons Galleria.#DMVFood #DCFood pic.twitter.com/n9sUI8qHZH

HSBC Bank Coming To Former Starbucks Location At 7th and H St (800 7th St NW)

The long, long time Starbucks on the northwest corner of 7th and H St NW closed in September of last year. The scaffolding and shrouds went up this spring as the building underwent renovation. Now we know that an HSBC Bank will be moving based on the signage recently posted inside the building. Construction continues on the building throughout the pandemic. We’ll update further as we know it!
