PQ’s Best Kept Beauty Secret
Like most women, I supplement my designer beauty products with drugstore brands to save money. But when I moved to the Penn Quarter, I was shocked by the high prices and the poor selection available at the neighborhood drugstores.
Enter the Bed, Bath and Beyond at 709 7th Street NW.
While the housewares chain is better known for linens and tableware, the Penn Quarter location is stocked with the best selection of beauty and personal care products in the neighborhood. From Cover Girl to Calgon to Chloraseptic, I have yet to find a product that they don’t carry.
And compared to some of the local options, the prices at Bed, Bath and Beyond are practically dreamy. All brand name makeup products sell for 10% below retail prices, and I’ve noticed that the prices of other items are often lower as well.
In the eyes of this PQ resident, the prices and selection at Bed, Bath and Beyond make the neighborhood drugstore obsolete.

BB&B is a bargain — especially with the plethora of $5 off $15/more and 20% off coupons that are mailed out every other week (or so it seems). Cheaper — and a better shopping experience — than Skeevee-S.
Don’t forget to use the 20 per cent off coupons sent by the store (they also take their own expired coupons, so don’t throw them away) They also take Linens and Things 20 per cent discount, which really adds to the savings.
The other day I also realized that you can use more than one coupon during a purchase of multiple items. They have my business without a doubt.
Anon, she meant that the neighborhood drugstore would be obsolete for toiletries and such. Once people realize what they can buy at BB&B why would they go to CVS for anything but medicine? The prices are good, the staff is friendly (and apparently happy) and helpful and it’s a clean, interesting place to shop.
Oh no – you’ve let the secret out! Not only does BB&B have cheaper prices, but it has a great selection and an assortment of products that I haven’t found in other bricks-and-mortar stores in the area.
I’m sorry. I know that BB&B was supposed to be hush hush. But I just can’t watch people pay $15 for an $11 dollar mascara anymore.
What PQGirl meant to say is that the CVS at 7th & H is the best place to buy cosmetics. It’s clean, modern, air conditioned, cheerful and well stocked. There’s no BB&B around here, right? 😉

You must be kidding. Is someone paying you to say this? How can a neighborhood drugstore be obsolete for anyone who needs prescription medications?
