RAMMY Winners 2016
Last night we attended the 34th Annual RAMMY Awards at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
The best of the best in the areas food and beverage industry were in attendance. We are especially proud of our Penn Quarter neighbors who were honored:
Chef of the Year – Scott Drewno, The Source by Wolfgang Puck
Service Program of the Year – Fiola
Employee of the Year – Jorge Martinez, The Source by Wolfgang Puck
Restaurateur of the Year – Mike Isabella Concepts
Honorary Milestone Award – Occidental Grill & Seafood for 110 years in business
Many award recipients remarked on the thriving food scene, the perseverance, creativity and hard work of their teams, and the importance of supportive friends and family.
However, it was Chef Scott Drewno’s acceptance remarks that really highlighted how incredible this industry is. Chef Drewno’s thoughtful and inspiring comments noted that one of the reasons he loves what he does is that this community is one of acceptance and love. Referring to Sunday’s tragedy in Orlando and other recent, widely reported incidents of hate and violence, Scott called upon his peers to recognize that ‘no matter where you come from, what job you have, your religion, your sexual preference, the color of your hair (referring to Sebastian Zutant’s green hair), not only are you able to succeed, but you can be accepted and loved. Together, our voices can be loud enough and strong enough to spread the love and overcome the hate in our World.’
