Downtown DC Survey Reminder
This is a short reminder that the 2nd Annual Downtown Neighborhood Survey period ends in one week on December 26. This survey is a joint effort among the Downtown Business Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA), The Downtowner newspaper, the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association and the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) with the intent of getting a better grip on the needs, wants and realities of doing business and living in downtown Washington, DC. For additional information and commentary, you can check out our first post about the survey.

speaking of retail, I’d love to see a real solid anchor department store as a tenant at City Center whenever it gets finished. I don’t think it will be a Federated brand as Macy’s is already downtown and Bloomie’s is going in to G’town Park.
Nordstrom’s…anyone? anyone?
City Paper reports that Balducci’s said “no way” to PQ once again. So that spot on Seventh Street sits empty, four years after the developers “promised” a grocery store would open there.
Moral of the story: if a “promise” is not in writing, it means nothing.

This survey is invaluable to the Downtown Neighborhood to attract retailers to our area. Most national and regional retailers rely heavily on marketing data that is modeled off of Census data. At this point Census data is over 8 years old and very stale. This is especially true for the District’s downtown which has undergone a transformation this decade. Retailers know our area has transformed and is thriving but they (or their lenders) aren’t always comfortable making that plunge without data to support the decision. This survey can bridge that gap.
