Teaism Warns Customers About Pickpockets
This weekend, I had a craving for Teaism’s Turkey Apple Sausage. So, I braved the long line of tourists and locals to pick up a mid-afternoon breakfast. But when I got to the front of the line, I was a bit surprised to see a sign on the counter which warned female customers that thieves had been targeting the restaurant.
I went back today and while I was waiting for my order, I decided to inquire about the sign.
It seems that thieves have been loitering in the restaurant preying on women who leave their purses unattended. The gentleman manning the grill seemed to think that most of the victims had been tourists, but once again it pays to be vigilant.
Remember, our neighborhood is safe but it is not crime free.

It’s happened at one of the Potbelly’s in the Farragut area — a friend of mine and I both had our wallets stolen out of our bags while eating lunch.
Keep your bag on your lap, or under your chair. If you MUST put it across the back, I suggest covering it with a coat or jacket.
those signs have been up for at least 18 months, off and on. Started out by the registers, then they put one by where you pick up your food. About 2 months ago they showed up in the bathroom. I recently noticed new ones on the railing going downstairs, by the two tables that are apparently prime pickpocket spots.
I just wish they’d spelled pickpocket right.
This is a very common ploy in London pubs and restaurants, too – I managed to stop someone who was trying to ease my friend’s purse off the back of her chair, but only because I’d been warned. Please do help others out by telling them to be more careful, and always keep bags, purses, etc., under your control.
I love any bar or restaurant that has hooks under the bar or table top for purses & etc.!
A co-work of mine claimed he spotted a guy about to grab a woman’s purse in Teaism. They (thief & co-worker) made eye-contact and the guy backed off. My co-worker said he would have chased the guy down if need be.
The sign has been there for a while. There are pickpockets in the Metro too. Anywhere crowds gather.

That’s interesting- a year ago, the same thing occured at Zatinya. Thieves were targeting women who sling their handbags on their seats at the busy bar area.
