RSS FeedDining With Your Dog In The PQ
Anyone who walks regularly around the neighborhood knows that there is an ever growing canine population in the PQ. The walks are great but it is also nice to relax with your pooch and visit with friends at an outdoor café after a long evening walk. So slowly but surely, I’ve started a list of PQ restaurants that allow pets at the outdoor tables. Please feel free to add to this list and remember to always ask the restaurant or call ahead before marching pooch in.
Busboys and Poets (5th and K) – completely dog friendly patio (half the tables had very well-behaved pets under them the last time I hung out there – the most dogs I’ve seen at one time at a PQ restaurant)
Teaism – Dogs allowed at the outdoor tables if you can get one.
Poste – Allows dogs on the lower level where the couches are but not on the higher outdoor patio. Wait staff is extremely dog friendly and eager to bring out a bowl of water.
Jaleo – No problem with dogs at outdoor tables and the linear setup along the sidewalk works well with the other patrons.
Oyamel – Allows dogs at the outer tables adjacent to the sidewalk.
701 – Mixed results; sometimes dog friendly, sometimes resistant. But it is a great place to dine with the pet at an outer table when the outdoor area is not crowded. The other patrons never noticed my dog was around.
Kanlaya – Dog friendly
Lee Loo – Dog friendly
There are a few daytime outdoor dining days left as fall gets into full swing…any readers with information on Proof, Zaytinya, D’Acqua, Café Atlantico or the Austin Grill?

Excellent post, thanks for this info. It will be interesting to follow up next Spring to see the additions/subtractions for the next warm season.
Good to know about D’Acqua!!! Even with the cooler weather BB&P has quite a patio scene going. And Jaleo and 701 have kept their outdoor seating as well.
The viet sandwhich and pho place a couple doors south of Kanlaya is also dog friendly. There are only 2 tables on the patio, but they sure beat the yucky interior. Since this is the only place I can get a banh mi sandwich (French bread smeared with pate, different types of ham, pickled radish and carrots, fresh cilantro and jalapeños) without driving…it works for me.
P.S. – for those of your dreading another boring sandwhich, consider a banh mi sandwhich. It’s cheap, around $4, and yummy. It’s a 6-8 inch french bread baguette smeared with pate, different types of ham, thin slivers of pickled radish and carrots, fresh cilantro and jalapeños. Remember the French colonized Vietnam for a while, so I think the bread is better than most sandwich shops around.
Jaylin: I’ll be picking one of those sandwiches up tomorrow. If it is as good as it sounds, I’ll be forever in your debt.
Dog owners, your perspective would be helpful. It has got to be a small minority because it rarely happens; every two months, more or less, where we find doogy poo on the sidewalk in front of our condo. How does this happen? I am guessing that at times the owner does not expect the event to happen so the owner does not have a bag to pick up after the dog. Even if this is the case, why would the owner not be considerate enough to go back to our condo where the nearby condo or Apt they live in to get a bag and clean up the mess. Both times this occurred on very busy sidewalks and the mass was tracked up and down the sidewalk by innocent pedestrians who were not looking down. Any advice? When you guys see other owners not behaving well are you saying something or is it one of those things where it’s hard to say something because you do not want to start an argument. What neighborhood signs work? Signed, befuddled.
Sidewalktalk: The people who don’t pick up after their dogs are no different from those who throw cigarette butts out their car window, throw trash on the ground rather than in a can, etc. It has nothing to do with owning a dog, it’s lazy selfishness.
Asking a dog owner to explain this behavior is like asking a garbage man (person) to explain why people litter. How should we know? Everyone knows this leaving poop (or trash) on the ground is wrong, but some people just don’t care.
Jaylin: Quick follow-up, you were right about the banh mi sandwich. At just over $4 that is a fantastic deal.

D’Acqua is very dog-friendly. I’ve brought my rambunctious beagle there 3 times now, and they always bring out a bowl of water without me even asking and seem very happy to see my pup.
