Street Elevator Action
You don’t see too many of these street elevators (sidewalk vaults?) in DC, at least not in the kind of numbers that you see them in NY & Chicago. We’ve caught this one outside of Ollie’s Trolley in use a few times for garbage pickups. Presumably most downtown DC buildings have loading docks [...]

Tamburlaine Back Up And Running
The Shakespeare Theatre let us know that after a brief cessation of performances of Tamburlaine due to an injury to Avery Brooks, the lead for the production, the show is back on and will resume with tomorrow’s 8 pm performance. Edward II, running concurrently with Tamburlaine, was not affected and both productions run until January 6, [...]
What’s The Price For A Mistake?
Mrs. Columbo and I went out for dinner two nights in a row this week, first to Rosa Mexicano, and the next night at Proof. Overall both meals were very good, but each restaurant had a hiccup with our night out, and each handled it differently.
At Rosa, we discovered that one of our wine glasses [...]
Weekend Perp Caught – Tunnel Fine Wines Open
A quick call to Tunnel Fine Wines & Spirits yesterday revealed that they are now open for their usual business hours after last weekend’s incident. The police caught the crime’s perpetrator within an hour of its commission and since he violated probation (among other things apparently), the anticipation is that he’ll be staying in jail for a [...]
7th St Optician (I-Doc Optical) Moves To F St
Thanks to Cheryl for letting us know that the optician (I-Doc Optical) at 702 7th St will be moving to the 900 block of F St. Like many restaurants on 7th street, Legal Seafood is craving more space to serve more customers. So, after I-Doc Optical moves to F St, Legal Seafood will expand into [...]

Local Wine Shop Owner Robbed & Shot
Ed. Note: PQ Living will provide a short update on this post tomorrow, December 27, 2007.
Falling under the “be watchful and aware” category, we received independent reports indicating the owner of Tunnel Fine Wines & Spirits, which recently opened at 3rd and H Streets, NW, and was previewed by PQ Living, was robbed at gunpoint in the store [...]
To Live, Shop, And Work In Downtown DC
The Examiner gives us a nice overview of Downtown DC’s revival. Many DC Gov people are quoted in the article, but the best quote comes from Kate Mulhearn, spokeswoman for West Elm. “That means people potentially can live downtown, shop downtown and work downtown, and it’s great for D.C. to truly be able have that [...]
