CookingLight Talks PQ Restaurants
Washington, DC caught CookingLight’s attention ranking our Nation’s Capital third in a national list for “eating smart” (whatever that means!). Poste (a favorite of this writer), Cafe Atlantico’s Minibar and the Penn Quarter Fresh Farm market all got mentions.

Mysterious Lady Face On Storefront Poster At 10th & F St NW (Panera Bread)
At the corner of Douglas Development’s Atlantic Building (950 F St NW), a retail window recently began displaying a lady’s face. This corner space is the rumored site of the Panera Bread, but we couldn’t find a link between the window image and the restaurant. Do any readers have any suggestions?
It is [...]
Power Outage Last Night Around Verizon Center
Looks like the power went out and was restored last night in and around the Verizon Center. This NBC4 story implies that there was some concern it would happen again this morning.
Thanks to an anonymous PQ Living reader for pointing this one out.
SmartBike Program Comes To Penn Quarter! (March 2008)
Pic courtesy of Bicing’s website.
The Bike-sharing Blog updates us on DC’s SmartBike program. It basically looks like it’ll be the Zipcar/Flexcar of bicycles. From the Bike-sharing Blog:
The goal for launching Washington, D.C.’s bike-sharing program, “DC SmartBike” is in March 2008. This will likely be the first 3rd generation (high-tech) bike-sharing program in [...]
New Apartment Building Under Construction (Ashton Judiciary Square – 750 3rd St NW)
The site at 750 3rd St NW hosted a Best Western in years past. In 2004 or 2005, ABDO Development bought the Best Western and proceeded to demolish the building. ABDO planned to build a luxury condominium on the postage-stamp sized lot. The new condo was to be named Penn Tower (pic) [...]
Mayor Fenty Comes to Chinatown Tonight! (Chinatown Revitalization Council)
The Chinatown Revitalization Council (CRC) has invited neighbors to attend tonight’s new year meeting where Mayor Fenty will give a keynote address about the “State of Chinatown.” The CRC is billing itself as a more open and inclusive Chinatown organization when compared to the Chinese Steering Committee and its “inner circle.”
In addition, our public [...]
Riding the 30s Bus
Metro recently announced changes to the very heavily traveled 30s bus route between Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase and Anacostia (WaPo did a story on it too). It runs through both the poorest and the ritziest neighborhoods in DC – four digit incomes to seven digit incomes. I’m on a quest to use my car less so [...]
Wayback II: Leader Theater On 9th
We’re setting the Wayback machine to around 1921 or 1922 with this photo of the Leader Theater that stood at 507 9th Street. The silent movie “The Kid”, starring Jackie Coogan and written and directed by Charlie Chaplin, is showing and by taking a closer look you can see that The Adventures of Tarzan runs [...]
Prepare To Start Whistling Sweet Georgia Brown!
If you ever look where you’re walking, you probably already know this: On the Ides of March the Harlem Globetrotters will be at the Verizon Center for two shows (games?), and the ads are plastered all over the streets. Not the same without Curley Neal playing, still I bet they put on a fun show. [...]
Spice Girls Spotted At Hard Rock
We can’t claim this one for ourselves, we’re not TMZ, but we can point you to the photos. The Spice Girls performed their girl pop at the Verizon Center last night and were spotted at the Hard Rock Cafe (at 10th and E Streets, NW) as documented by this blog post.
Thanks to PQ Living reader Dudley for [...]
