Penn Ave Photo Essay
Today’s Sunday magazine in WaPo has a photo essay on Pennsylvania Avenue. We especially liked the Attack of the Segways photo online at selection 8.

Although I realize it is clearly not the point of the post, I did want to add a comment on the Segways. My husband and I did a segway tour in Vienna, Austria – and it was an amazing way to see the city. We covered so much ground more quickly and efficiently than on foot. So, on a later trip to visit my parents in Philadelphia, we bought an excursion for the four of us in their city. Two relatively inactive 60ish adults got the hang of it in mere moments and loved every minute of it. I would highly recommend as a fun and innovative experience. Now I dont’ know much about the downtown route the DC organization takes but I just wanted to leave my 2 cents that riding a Segway is easy for people of all ages and really a unique experience. Next time we have guests in town we’ll for sure look into the DC-version for them, but I know that they also run the tours across Europe. And, Europe being a bit more laid back, there are a few less rules – we could go faster and played in traffic more; in Philly we were limited to the Park and more pedestrian routes, and a slower “key” that capped our speed lower than my love of adrenaline would have liked.

The Segways were also on the cover of print version of the Sunday Magazine. Definitely a sign of the times. ;->
