Photo Of The Week: Andale Sculpture In Penn Quarter
We thought this would be an appropriate pic of the week. With Andale’s future uncertain, these signature sculptures outside of Andale’s windows may disappear soon! BTW – their website doesn’t work anymore. Has anyone noticed that only the metal feet are left of one of the smaller sculptures (it used to be a pair of sculptures)? Seems like the little guy went missing a few weeks ago.

Here is the A9 pic of the outside of the restaurant with the four sculptures highlighted:

One of the sculptures was stolen near the beginning of this year. And can I say how happy I am that Andale is gone? I always thought that place cost way too much for so-so food.
I heard Jose Andres is looking at putting another Oyamel in the space.

After reading the quote below on WaPo’s Tom Sietsema’s dining chat, I believe “closed for renovations” is coming from a yet to be announced new restaurant.

Andale, the Mexican-inspired restaurant in Penn Quarter, closed earlier this week, after a run of almost six years. The reason? One of its three business partners “decided he didn’t want to be in the restaurant business anymore,” according to chef Alison Swope, who has “no idea” what the future holds for her. Does she want to keep cooking? “Of course!,” she told me yesterday afternoon. “What else am I going to do after 27 years?” Attention, area restaurants: As I type, Swope is trying to find jobs for her cooks, waiters and busboys, some of whom have been with her since before she even opened Andale.
