Is This Flora Fit For Mukasey?
We’ve highlighted the FBI enough for a while (seriously, you can stop tapping our phones) so we now turn our attentions to the DOJ building across the street. How does a fortress of power like the DOJ like to present itself?
Ornamental Cabbage. Really? Is that the image you want to throw out there as the United Stated Department of Justice? Cabbage huh? Perhaps they could try to get a tough sounding plant or flower? Maybe the Tiger Lily? Or wait, even better: The Venus FlyTrap!
We will, however, commend the DOJ on refinishing their doors which look much better now. They’ve been painted a cold gray with black detailing, really going for that imposing look.
And imposing those doors would be, if they weren’t guarded by ornamental cabbage.

Mrs Columbo loves the ornamental cabbage (although she calls it “decorators cabbage”), thinks I’m crazy not to like it.
Some friends from North Carolina took a really cute picture with their heads in the large silver loops/door handles while holding hands and wearing puffy silver jackets. I loved the picture, but it took me a couple of years of living here to figure out where exactly they took the picture. You can barely make out the large handles in the third picture above.
I am guessing that they would have a pretty hard time recreating the picture now with the large planters serving as a solid barrier around the door. I noticed that just this week. So is that a recent look?
I only think it looks good if it is bunched tightly together. Too loose and it looks like Green Acres downtown to me!

I actually think it looks pretty decent in this photo. It is better than no landscaping.
