Hands On Maker Technology At DCPL Holiday Happy Hour Tomorrow Night – Dec 4 (MLK Library Dream Lab)
We learned about a great evening event at the MLK Library’s Dream Lab (9th and G St NW) showcasing the Dream Lab which is a “maker” lab available for public use. On to the details:
Create, Drink, and Be Merry at DCPL Holiday Happy Hour
Sip cocktails and make 3-D scanned portraits, laser-cut lanterns, mason jar snow globes (and more!) with DCPL’s state-of-the-art technology.
On Friday, December 4th at 5:30pm the DC Public Library will host a Holiday Happy Hour where all in attendance can sip craft cocktails while making a gift for a loved one (or themselves). The evening, which will be held in the Dream Lab at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, will give guests a chance to use state-of-the-art technology such as 3-D printers, laser cutters and DI-Wires. Those skills will be taught by Billy Friebele and Mike Lacovone, the two artists heading up the library’s Maker-in-Residence Program.
Guest will have the opportunity to make items such as 3-D scanned portraits, laser-cut lanterns, mason jar snow globes and DI-Wire accessories. The Holiday Happy Hour has a suggested donation price of $35. That money will go to support library programs that bridge the digital and economic divide, promote early literacy and summer reading, and celebrate the District’s cultural vibrancy. Tickets for the happy hour can be purchased here.
