What’s Up Next For The Red Sage Location?
We won’t mind at all if Frank From Virginia can also give us the answer to this restaurant mystery.
Walking by the old Red Sage spot at 14th & F recently we noticed that while it looks like work is going on inside, there are no work permits posted on the outside (at least none that we could see). An internet search produced a Chowhound post where a poster says it will be an Italian restaurant, but no proof or cite is given.
So we’re asking our readers again, anyone know what’s going on with the Red Sage location?

Good work so far Flipperman. I did a search of the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs and found three building permit applications, the latest being August 8th of this year. All three were issued to David Fontana of Mckeever Services, here in DC. A review of the (April) zoning permit states: “Zoning Review Approved. restaurant conversion to office/ Commerce Bankin..”
In August there was another zoning permit approved “Zoning Review Approved. Rev. to BP#115894 to change elevation side wording and color for new bank branch.”
So, going out on a limb here, I’m with Flipperman in that it will be a bank.
This is downtown, a center of finance, it should probably have more businesses than restaurants. Red Sage wasn’t that good anyways.
The Chowhound commenter had it slightly confused. The owners of Red Sage, and now just Zola, are opening an Italian restaurant at 15th and H streets in the Woodward building. With a bakery attached! The chef has been traveling through Italy for inspiration. Should be a big opening.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
For some reason I thought that Commerce Bank had said they were going to have a future location there, but now going to their website, it doesn’t say anything. Could be they changed their plans after they got taken over by TD, but could also be that I’m just losing it 😛
