What Can You Whip Up From The CVS?
Since PQ residents have to engage in “guerilla grocery shopping” at the CVS, we thought we’d open up the blog for people to post their best CVS recipes. “When you get lemons, make lemonade,” the saying goes. Or something like that.
Here are the rules:
- Every ingredient of your CVS masterpiece must be purchasable at a PQ/GP/Chinatown CVS (there are 4 of them).
- Any cooking process is allowed. You can fry it, bake it, sear it, stir it, blend it, mix it, even aerate it. As long as it’s legal and OSHA compliant, it’s within bounds.
- Any meal type is allowed – breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, side dishes, you name it.
- No foods purchased “as is” are allowed to be the end meal. You can’t buy the Stouffer’s Mac and Cheese, nuke it and call it your CVS meal. Foods can serve as the basis for your culinary delight but you have to process it in some way.
- Extra kudos will be doled out for a 100% CVS multi-course meal – appetizer, entree and dessert.
- Posting actual recipes and links to pictures of your meal are encouraged.
- There is no prize for posting the best recipe, just the appreciation of fellow residents.

INSTANT GOURMET POPCORN
a fast party favorite for those who can’t cook.
2 Snickers bars
1 bag of microwavable popcorn
Salt
Pop the microwavable popcorn according to the instructions. When done, strain popcorn over a large colander to remove unpopped kernels. Place in a large bowl.
Chop the candy bars into small pieces (1/2″ squares). Place in a ceramic dish and microwave on medium heat for 1:30 or until mostly melted. You may need to stir the candy concoction to even out the melting.
Drizzle melted candy over popcorn, stirring to coat evenly. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
Yummy!
OPTION: If you want a more peanuty taste, in a separate dish, melt a tablespoon of peanut butter and mix in. Think abut adding M&Ms or other tasty add-ins.
South of the Border CVS Casserole
CVS Purchase:
2 cans of baked beans
2 of the little mini cans of ham (or 1 can of Spam)
1/2 cup of shredded cheese
1 can of salsa
Tortilla chips
– Preheat the oven to 350.
– Dump the beans, 1/2 of the salsa, ham into a casserole dish.
– Top with tortilla chips and cheese
– Bake for 30 minutes
I bet you could also add sour cream at the end.
Yummy goodness.
Because Trader Joe’s opened up at the Foggy Bottom, just blocks from where I work, I immediately retired from the Guerrila shopping wars at CVS. Guess Safeway at 5th and H when it opens will find more retired Guerrila shoppers

Hilarious.
