First Date Places
Full of restaurants, a museum or two and the home of the Wizards and Capitals, the Penn Quarter is a great place for a first date. What are your favorites? Here are a few worth considering…
1. Poste – The outdoor courtyard in summer and the indoor bar/lounge in winter are not too noisy and always have a well mannered crowd.
2. PS7s – The lounge in the right half of the restaurant has lots of couch space, friendly bartenders and some great wines. Usually not crowded. Check out the Little Sins and the Big Sins, aka dessert.
3. Portico Cafe (Reynolds Center/American Art Museum/NPG) – Only Open During Nice Weather – Nothing better than a coffee overlooking F Street after gazing at some art. You may have to wait for a table.

We went on a fist date yesterday to the sculpture garden then we crossed Penn ave. for a cup of coffee at Starbucks @ 7th and Indiana nw. I had hot cocoa and my date had skim latte w/sweet and low. was windy but invigorating sitting outside at the navy memorial behind archives.
The upstairs bar at the Chophouse is one of my faves in the neighborhood. The museum/gallery thing seems like an obvious choice (you could spend hours in the SAAM’s Luce Center alone), and there’s always movies! Bowling at Lucky Strike would be great if it weren’t so damn expensive; hopefully the new pool hall will be more moderately priced.
