DC To Test Mass Notification System On Sunday Morning
If you’re within earshot of the National Mall, which most of us are, you will likely hear a test of DC’s mass notification system on Sunday morning. It will happen between 9am and 10am on Sunday January 11, 2009. Here is the raw text of the Alert DC message:
The city will test its new mass notification system between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m on Sunday, January 11, 2009. The test will include four generic test voice messages and one tonal test. Anyone in the vicinity of the National Mall may hear the test. Please be advised, this is only a test.

I live at the Lafayette, and I heard it loud and clear, closer to 11AM though. I understand there was a voice test and a tonal test, but I only heard the tones. It was like the sound you hear when you are at a shopping mall and it’s about to close.

Did anyone hear the test? I was hoping to, but I didn’t hear a thing from the Lafayette (7th & D). Moving here from tornado alley where every town has sirens, I was amazed to learn that there’s no public emergency warning system in DC.
