Cafe du Parc Opens! (1401 Penn Ave)
As of April 2nd, Cafe du Parc (1401 Penn Ave NW) is open!
Daily Candy has the scoop:
- The charming and convenient new spot from chef Antoine Westermann is a traditional French bistro, wine bar, and patisserie all in one.
Pop in for coffee and homemade brioche on your walk to work (they open at 6 a.m.). Pick up a fresh salad nicoise and tartine du jour for lunch. Or grab a baguette, house-made eclairs, or a chocolate tart on your way home.
Cafe du Parc, 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 14th and 15th Streets (202-942-7000).

I looked at the menu http://www.cafeduparc.com/ and it looks good for dinner, but bagel with cream cheese, a muffin or brioche at $5.50??
That’s absolutely ridiculous. I noticed a large water is also $7 while bread & butter is $5.
Order a large water, large juice and bread & butter and your bill will be over $20. I’ll leave this place for the tourists staying at the Willard.
Hmm, I think I’ll reconsider my desire to check out this new establishment. Thanks for the info Anon(s)!
Wait, a LARGE WATER is $7? Are we talking about H2O? Or is this like water from the magical fountain of youth or something?
I just checked out the menu, a large mineral water (still or sparkling) is $7. That’s probably about the same, maybe a few dollars more, than most restaurants around here.
So if you have pancakes, coffee, and no bottled water for breakfast it would cost you $15. I’ll have to see the place for myself to know if any of the meals are worth it.
I picked up an eclair yesterday in the hopes that I would no longer have to go all the way to Patisserie Poupon in Georgetown for my French pastry fix. No such luck. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing memorable either.
I grabbed a Nicoise sandwich (pre-made) and a cranberry cookie and a “crunchy” peanut butter cookie (with whole peanuts) in the cafe. I bought two cookies, as that is their minimum order for cookies. All in all, just under $10.
The food is fine, but Breadline isn’t that further a walk for me if I’m doing my normal carryout. However, once they get the outdoor cafe tables going on Penn Ave going, it might be worth the coinage to hang out there and relax. Bar looks nice.

Wow this sounds great, can’t wait to check it out, thanks!
