Mayor Gets Serious About WMATA Relocation (500 6th St NW) & Pedestrian Tunnel
DCist draws our attention to a WaPo article that outlines Mayor Fenty’s proposal to entice WMATA to relocate from 500 6th St NW to Anacostia, thereby freeing up the valuable land for something more beneficial to neighborhood residents.
In the proposal is also $40 million to construct a pedestrian tunnel between Gallery Place and Metro Center stations!

It will also be nice to bring some mixed-use activity over towards 6th St and the Building Museum, which is an underutilized gem in our neighborhood.
I would love to have an underground walkway between metro center & GP. Also the two Farragut stations. Add some retail or kiosks down there too.
is this where anthony williams returns to DC as the go to guy when the politicans want to lease taxpayers land to private companys?
WMATA owned several parcels of land where the existing Verizon Center now stands.
that would be beyond wonderful! How much disruption would there be on the streets bet. G.Place & Metro Ctr?
