Film Noir & Live Music
The National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum is showing film noir classic “Elevator to the Gallows,” today at 4 pm, with a twist: The Thad Wilson Quintet will play live music during the film, the band will play a score for the film inspired by the original soundtrack which was composed by Miles Davis.
If you’re a jazz and noir film, this event can’t be beat. And it’s free!

Was it crowded? The free movies most weekends at the National Gallery (East Building) tend to be very crowded. You usually have to get in early to get a good seat.
The auditorium was maybe 3/4 full. Apparently, they hand out free tickets for the shows, but I was able to get in without one (probably because they knew it wasn’t ‘sold out’).

I actually went to see this on Saturday – great fun! The movie was good and the live music was a nice touch – the combo worked surprisingly well.
