RSS FeedStreet & Alley Closures on Sunday
President Bush is scheduled to visit Ford’s Theatre on Sunday, June 24th for the Ford’s Theatre Gala. 10th ST (and the alley behind Ford’s Theatre, aka the John Wilkes Booth Escape Route) will be closed starting at 10 am Sunday morning. This may be of particular interest to the Artisan & Ventana residents who also share that alley.
No word on when the street (or alley) will reopen.

The Artisan doorman said a commercial was being taped on 10th street yesterday afternoon – lots of big costumes and fake snow – does anyone know what the commercial was for? (Or maybe these were just preparations for the stage show mentioned by anonymous?)
Just wondering if Bush’s visit to Ford’s Theater is why a helicopter was circling Penn Quarter Sunday evening around 6:30-7 p.m. It was flying quite low and was loud and annoying. Did anyone else see it?
Anon: I don’t know why the helicopter was circling, but I saw it too.. I also could read “Police” on the side of the blue/white copter. I think it was the MPD helicopter. It just circled the Penn Quarter area 10+ times, left and then came back for a little while longer..
I’d guess the helicopter was for Bush. There were men all over the roofs of the theare and surrounding buildings with protective vests & binoculars from about 4 pm till 10 or so.
I live in the Artisan. My balcony overlooks “Booths Alley”. GW came out the back door of the theatre and left via the alley. Intense! I felt scared to stand on my balcony because the snipers and secret service agents were very intimidating! It was very cool to see the whole process the Secret Service and DCPD go through.
I was on the roof deck of 701 and the helicopter was so annoying and loud that I went inside. I’ve seen helicopters circling on numerous occasions.

The lineup of performers is interesting (I will try to get a glimpse of Olivia Newton John). The show is being taped and will air around Christmas time. Rumor has it that the fake snow on the stage will have to be shoveled before POTUS walks out — the Secret Service fears that he will slip and fall. Oy!
