Incident Last Night Around The Verizon Center (6th St NW)

I was out on 7th Street last night around that time. A metro officer had handcuffed one young man and shouted for a second young man to stop. The second young man ran away, forcing the officer, who did not have a partner, to chase with a handcuffed young man in tow. It was upsetting to see that no one helped the officer on such a busy street. The second young man was caught, held in front of Zengo, and later released.

Not quite Penn Quarter, but around 9:30 last night, there were 3 fire trucks and a couple of cop cars on the 7th street side of the convention center. Anyone know what it was?

I also saw the commotion first-hand. What was more than upsetting was watching the bunch of imbeciles standing outside of McDonald’s bust out in laughter as the officer tried to do his job and drag the handcuffed teen while trying to catch the other teen running from the scene. Not only did some of these individuals laugh, I also heard shockingly rude comments directed at the policeman.

As for the solo officer on the scene, I commend him for his bravery and swift response. One of those delinquents easily could have had a gun or other weapon.

for those who don’t know the police acronyms, ALU stands for Asian Liaison Unit which is the specialized unit that works Chinatown.

I wish I was there so I could make a citizens arrest on those punks… they’ll end up in jail even if my absurdly high tax dollars are paying for their education, food, and shelter.

I often read my hometown newspaper, the Orlando Sentinel. To my surprise, I came across this story about the Crime and Punishment museum coming to our neighborhood here in DC.

I can just picture the scene now at that McDonald’s as the french fries fall out of their mouths as they crack up while cracked out.

I love sidewalk cafes, but the Mc’d’s/Chipolte could be removed. It is nothing but a trash heap in more ways then one.

I agree with Linda. The outdoor seating outside of Chipoltle should be removed, in addition to the McDonalds and CVS on the corner 7th and H. I think this would greatly improve our neighborhood.

To those who would like to see improvements in front of CVS, Chipotle and McDondald’s, let everyone in government (especially elected officials) know you feel they are a neighborhood nuisance (the word nuisance seems to be very important)- especially the Mayor’s office and City Council members. I imagine there are a disproportioanlly high number of calls to police about activities in front of these establishments. The community needs to put pressure on the owners to make changes to their business practices, and absent any changes we need government to require these changes. I find McDonald’s to be a big problem because they tolerate panhandlers coming inside their restaurants to beg. They are not good neighbors.

I have made complaints about both the activities around McDonalds on 7th and Burger King on 5th.

However, the problem is still there.
