New & Notable In The Neighborhood
New: Fro-Zen-Yo, the new self serve frozen yogurt shop in the much blogged about (at least on our site) 10th & F corner. We tweeted about their opening last week and stopped by to try it last night. This is the frozen yogurt of our childhood, much sweeter than TangySweet, so your personal tastes will determine which you like better. We do like controlling our toppings (extra yogurt chips!) and it can be much cheaper, but overall we give the taste-edge to TangySweet. Fro-Zen-Yo should be very popular with the tourists who are bused into that area, and the staff seems very nice. Workers have been standing outside offering free samples all week.
Notable: We’ve mentioned it a couple of times in the comments section, but the recent renovations at the 8th & E CVS deserve special note. The renovations were completed very quickly, and the change is monumental. The store has been reorganized with more prepared foods, a better selection of groceries (bricks of Cafe Bustelo are finally in stock), and the checkout system is a breeze. Self checkout is significantly improved, including a dedicated staff member to continually reset any problem machines. We don’t know if the extra (and helpful) staff is here to stay, but we want to give CVS the benefit of the doubt. For many of us CVS remains the first stop for staple grocery items; we applaud their efforts to finally clean up the 8th Street store.

Agree on the praise for the 8th Street CVS restructure. The grocery selection is a welcome addition for sure! The service is still appallingly bad, but it IS still a CVS, so I guess what can you expect.
Tried to check out the new Fro-Zen-Yo tonight, but they were closed! This was at 8:10pm. Anyone know what their hours are?
Went last night at 8ish too and they were closed. what’s the deal with that? Are they just a lunchtime dessert place?
Thanks, but I’ll leave Fro-Zen-Yo to the Fa-nny Packs.
Agreed on the new CVS layout. Now lets hope they can keep the shelves stocked and boxes of inventory out of the aisles.
We stopped by Fro-Zen-Yo during their soft opening last weekend. Love that you can do self-service on both the yogurt and toppings. Definitely better for my husband and I as we like having a little of a few different flavors, and a variety of toppings. Plus sometimes I just want a smaller portion than you can get at the other places.
A few key points you forgot to mention:
1. They give free samples all the time–just go on in and fill up little sample cups with all flavors.
2. They have a lot of flavors at once–at least 16?
3. Most importantly, FREE HOT FUDGE!
Beware, they close at 7:30pm, very unfriendly for PQ residents. Hopefully the will extend their hours as things warm-up.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
big thumbs up to the 8th Street CVS reshuffle from this resident.
