Thanks for the heads up about Asian Spice. I stopped by on my way home for sushi. It was delicious…a great addition to the neighborhood. The inside looked beautiful, but the weather was so nice I took advantage of their patio-which I enjoyed almost as much as the sushi. I will definitely be back.

What did you have? Prices.. do they have a menu/website?

I stopped by for sushi at the bar a few nights ago.

the menu is pan-Asian plus sushi. they’ve got a full bar up front, a sushi bar in back and regular seating on the ground floor and regular seating on the second floor. the circular staircase is in the turret on the left as you enter…the space is nicely done. outdoor seating is available too. service was fine although few patrons were inside at the time (it was a Monday).

I’ll hold off on passing judgement on the food until I go back again. gotta’ go twice to get a good read on the food. menu is pan-Asian plus sushi. reasonable selection of beer and wine from all over and they have my favorite sushi accompaniment…Asahi.

talking to the floor manager, I learned they will have their grand opening in September although they are open for patrons now.

We went there the first night it was opened. At the time we wanted to sit outside but they didn’t have a liquor license that would permit them to sit outside and drink. So we sat inside.

One of our favorite things was Lobster Tempora Rolls.

Hello – This is like one of the only web references to this place I can find. Do they want to remain a secret? A friend told me they had seen in but I canot find anything about it on the net. I finally got a phone number from directory assistance ( 202) 589-0900. I plan to check it out soon and will let you all know what I think…but just the idea of the lobster tempura roll is getting me excited! If anyone knows a website or email for them please advise. Thanks

We went there for dinner tonight and it was a great experience. At first we thought there was a crowd waiting to get inside, like Matchbox next door. As we got closer, however, we discover the crowd to be people waiting for the Chinatown-NYC bus.

The decor is very cool, with a feeling like Matchbox, very chic urban. We got the sushi as well and it tasted very fresh and flavorful. It was odd though that they didn’t have sake, which is a nice combination with sushi. So, we got Long Island Ice Teas instead. Well, the “tea” part seems appropriate, right? Service was excellent.

They had a decent crowd inside, although it’s strange to walk into any restaurant in the PQ without a reservation. That won’t last for long. We predict that in time Asian Spice will sport the crowds that Matchbox boasts. It will definitely be a destination.

This is another great addition to our neighborhood. We’re definitely going back.

Wife and I went there Friday night around 8. The place was far less than 50% full, which I assume will change over time (though I don’t see it achieving Matchbox-like popularity). The food was good- typical pan-Asian fare, but certainly nothing special, especially given the somewhat elevated prices ($13 for very ordinary cashew chicken and I think a little more for so-so bul go gi). The service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing; however, they did serve us our appetizer at the same time as our main course – a big, big no-no in my book. We didn’t try the sushi, so I can’t comment on that.

Having also been to Asia Nine, I would say that this place is nearly indistinguishable. We’ll probably go back, but it’s not the kind of place I’d wait more than 30 minutes for a table.

Makoto is definitely a restaurant every Washingtonian should try once during their tenure in our fair city. pricey but nothing else like it.
