Chinatown Arch Restoration Update
As we mentioned last week, DDOT was planning on blocking off portions of H Street to accommodate restoration work of the Chinatown arch. As you can see from the pic, jersey barriers have been placed on H St blocking only the bus stops/lanes. Of concern to PQ residents, however, is that DDOT seems to have focused more on commuter traffic patterns than they did the surrounding (sleeping) residents. With work hours of 9pm to 5am, and the arch being directly next to a condominium, time will tell if those work hours were really a good idea.

You are so right gpliving. My apartment faces the arch and I heard hammering, etc. I contacted DDOT the other week and they never even got back to me.
I fear that the development planned by Riverdale International for the NE corner of 7th & H has fallen victim to the recession, like the hole in the ground at 10th & G.
DDOT doesn’t give a rat’s arse about their work disturbing people. They’ve proven this time and again, and usually just ignore complaints. Apparently DDOT is accountable to no one, so can do as they please. Has anyone contacted Councilman Jack Evans about this? Oh, wait, he’s the guy who helped increase the decibal levels downtown and put “enforcement” in the hands of the Sovereignty of DCRA, isn’t he?
I think Channel 4’s morning news has a weekly on-air ask the Mayor feature. Problems with neighborhood problems often make the cut, usually with some action taken by the mayor — might be worth a try.
Seriously people. You chose to live downtown next to one of the busiest intersections in the city. Do you expect the city to shut it down so the residents of 777 can get a more peaceful night of rest?
Anonymous at 4:59 – I expect the city to give its citizens at least as much or more consideration as commuters that live out side the DC. If the city wants a vibrant down town that is not a ghost town or a tourist ghetto then they need to give the residents as much consideration in their planning as anyone else. That means the commuters and tourists have to share some of the burdens with the residents.
At some point, the city needs to realize that the corner of 7th & H St NW has more people living on it than most “residential” blocks in DC.
My apartment faces the arch, I can vouch for the fact that the work of erecting the scaffolds in the middle of the night is _very_ loud. 😛

Anyone know what the status is of the closed CVS on that corner?
