Christo Was Here, We Think

Shrouded 1199 F Street Billboard Rendering

It isn’t the Pont Neuf Wrapped nor is it a Wrapped Reichstag but this shrouded incarnation of 1199 F Street (left photo) sure makes us think Christo and Jean Claude were hanging with the construction crew. Maybe we can get Ty Pennington to bring the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition bus by to do the grand reveal. The billboard of the rendering shows the final product to be (right photo).

Too funny. This is the same building GPliving commented on looking like a waterfall in an earlier post-comment this week.

I can’t wait for this building to be finished, mostly b/c I can’t stand that 3 sides of the building have no publicly available sidewalks. The sidewalk is only open on the north side of the building (and part of the West, where Radio Shack is located).

On the construction theme, it looks like the Chopstix site at 8th and H is getting a new tenant. There are signs in the windows about “Asia Spice” opening soon. Any information on what looks to be a new restaurant in the neighborhood?

I can’t wait for that building to be restored. The graffiti side that faces east on 11th has wonderful detail but is such an eye sore. I always see people coming out of Metro Center pointing up at it.

I love how the photo of the final product tries to superimpose the existing brown office building the new buildings into the landscape. One of the existing building windows takes up 2 floors of the new, glass structure! Looks kind of silly and off scale.

be aware that the photo of the final product is a tightly cropped photo of the billboard standing at 12th and f. the building in the background is actually the standing neighboring building – it isn’t part of the billboard. we could’ve made that clearer.
