Classical Music Graces Gallery Place – But Where Is It Coming From?
Anon wrote in to ask: where is the classical music coming from? It’s somewhere between G and H St on 7th St NW. I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t walked on 7th Street for a few days now. But, I thought I heard something the other day that sounded like the climax of a symphonic orchestra when I had my face pressed up against my window.

I think it is a good idea except between the hours of 11PM and 8 AM. If you live on 7th you can hear it clearly with out pressing your face against your window.
I believe it is XM. Akridge had turnover in their Gallery Place managers, and the XM was probably forgotten somewhere in the shuffle. I am really happy the classical music is back on to provide a relaxing breather in the middle of the hustle. I am sure people will appreciate it too when Hhliday music is played during the Christmas season.
No problem, GPL. It came to mind as soon as I saw your entry. I wish I could take the controls for half of a day and put XM 82 (The System) through the speakers. I bet that would surprise some folks! lol But anyway…the classical is relaxing. The holiday music should be nice later this year on 7th street!
The Akdrige theory makes sense; the speakers are definitely about a story above the commerical entrances on the east side of 7th.
They do need to work on time of day and volume issues, though; the music is playing when I walk to work at 7:30 am, which really is about a half-hour too early for anything that loud.
ah, that’s what that is. I live in the GP condos and i remember hearing classical music all weekend – including when i was lying in bed in the way early am. There are so many weird noises on 7th street I guess I figured it was some random dude out of his mind with a boombox. If it is Akridge, someone will be getting a phone call re the hours of operation.

Hey, it may be XM Satellite Radio. I remember Akridge broadcasting XM over the speakers built into the facade right about the retail spaces. when Gallery Place first opened a few years ago. I know they had an XM Radio installed in the building, and they played it often. Then they stopped it for a while. Back in 2004, I heard the XM call sign and channel announced between songs, so I knew that was broadcasting. I suppose it is back now?
