Clyde’s On The Walk Run
With a scant 90 minutes to get home from work, grab lunch, eat it, pick up a document and get back to work on the subway, I thought Chipotle would surely be my lunch savior today. I could taste the veggie tacos with guacamole as the Metro escalator brought me to the street level. But something else was in store.
Approaching Chipotle, I could see the line wrapped back towards the door. Strike one. Potbelly was my next thought so I hoofed it across the street in the heat towards H Street. Opening the door revealed another long line. Strike two. Then, it struck me that Clyde’s On The Walk with its choice of sandwiches and salads to go could fit the bill. I rarely see customers in there so I scurried back across the street and towards Clyde’s. As I opened the door of On The Walk (attached to the main Clyde’s restaurant with entrances on the brick walk leading to the Gallery Place mall), a sense of relief…no line at all. All the tables outside were taken with hungry patrons but few lingered inside and I was on my way home, Bombay Turkey sandwich in hand, in a few minutes. Perfect !
It gets better. PQGirl tells me that between 3 pm and 5 pm, food is half price. Now that’s something to munch on.

There is a rarely a long line at lunch because they are so efficient. They have great salads, too.
