PQ Farmer’s Market On CNN
Thanks go out to a PQ Living reader who sent in this clip from CNN that shows how our very own Penn Quarter Farmer’s Market gets its goods for the every Thursday market on 8th Street NW. It might cost more but you can buy locally grown produce, support the small/mid size farmer and buy in an environmentally conscious fashion at the same time.

Penn Quarter market is my favorite mid week market in DC. Such a great selection of Produce, cheeses and meats. Great for picking up dinner items right after work.

Maybe I am spoiled, but I am not impressed by the 8th Street Farmer’s market. There just isn’t very much produce and I find it absurd that the loaves of bread are marked at $6-8.00. For that price, I can buy eight loaves of bread at the grocery store or bake my own (it is one of the easiest things to make).
To follow up, here is an article on farmer’s markets that I linked to from WSJ today. Much of it is common sense, but it does offer some nice reminders of why the markets are not a panacea for city dwellers.
