Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC.
Downtown – Trover Cards & Gifts (1270 F St NW) a family bookstore and card shop chain closes. As far as we know this was the only dedicated greeting card style gift shop left downtown. [WaBizJo]
All Over DC – Mayor Fenty released his proposed 2011 budget. How do you close a $523 million gap in one swoop? Release a proposed 2011 budget with a slimmer government and other budget changers. [WaPo] & [DC Govt]
Capitol Hill – One neighborhood website plays an April Fool’s Day joke. Who knew that Snoop Dogg worked for the National Park Service? [The Hill Is Home]
The Mall/Smithsonian – April is jazz appreciation month at the vaunted institution. [Smithsonian]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Tomorrow at 1 pm is the dedication ceremony for Lift Off, the yellow outdoor sculpture right outside Busboys and Poets at 5th and K Streets NW. [The Triangle]
All Over DC – Stand up for Metro getting its fair share of annual regional payments to support its operation. [Fair Share For Metro]

What’s the deal with the Nuclear Security Summit this Sunday through Tuesday at the convention center? I’ve heard that the metro station will be closed and that there will be road closures. Any word if there are any demonstrations planned for the neighborhood?
Don’t know about the demonstrations, but NY Ave is closed from 6th to 9th, Mass Ave is closed from 9th to 11th. 7th and 9th are closed north of NY/Mass. Metro will not stop at Convention Center until Wed(?) morning. Traffic will be rerouted — I suggest keeping away from cars and cabs and buses until its all over. Think Inaugural madness all over.
I thought the Platinum space was reopening as some sort of “social networking club”: http://pqliving.com/?p=7586

It took me all of 5 mintues to fill out my take, send it and also forward it to everyone I know living in DC.
For those who never ride metro: if there are less or no metro service the roads will be more crowded. Please fill it out.
