DCCAH & DDOT Deploy Art Bike Racks

We noticed this morning that a shiny new bike rack sprang up on the sidewalk formerly occupied by a parking meter. But it is no normal bike rack. The piece of art was designed by William Gordon and sponsored by the DC Commission of Arts & Humanities (DCCAH) and DDOT. The pictured bike rack can be found on the 700 block of 7th St NW, with a twin placed on the other side of the street! Another set of funky bike racks was seen being installed outside the south Dupont Circle metro entrance today.

love it love it LOVE it! now if they could repaint the dragon gate and deal with the funky dumpsters behind it…
Nice, but I kindof wish they’d give up on the dragons, lanterns and Chinese characters already, and acknowledge that Chinatown isn’t particularly Chinese in character.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Anyone heard anything lately about the SmartBike expansion? A couple months ago they announced they were expanding from 10 to 50 racks this summer, but since then nothing.
