Downtown DC/Penn Quarter Retail Opening Report
The week before last we offered up the downtown DC/Penn Quarter closure report letting our readers know about retailers that recently closed. Today we offer up the opening report listing out businesses that opened recently or that we expect to open in downtown DC and Penn Quarter in the near future. Some are restaurants, some are retail, and we welcome all of them in joining the neighborhood!
1) Joe’s Stone Crab (15th St NW) – Joe’s opened to the public on January, 31 and Penn Quarter Living tried it out shortly after it opened. We added an Eater link with photos too. [Penn Quarter Living] & [DC Eater (photo set)]
2) The Partisan (709 D St NW) – This Red Apron Butchery and The Partisan, the linked restaurant, are coming soon. We know because they’re hiring. [Partisan tweet 1] & [Partisan tweet 2] & [Partisan tweet 3 (help wanted)]
3) Zagg Phone Repair (1204 G St NW) – Hat tip to regular PQ Living reader Jon for letting us know about Zagg, a phone repair and accessories retailer opening in the same block as the recent Dunkin Donuts opening. This is across the street from Macy’s – photo at top of story. Coming “soon”. [Zagg’s store locator] & [Zagg website]
4) Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches (1200 block G St NW) – Sandwiched in between the soon to open Zagg and the recently opened Dunkin Donuts. Opening date is TBD. [Downtown DC BID] & [Jimmy John’s website]
5) &pizza (14th St NW) – This custom pizza shop will come to K Street across the street from DC Coast at 14th St. [Washington Business Journal]
6) Allen Edmonds (1071 H St NW) – High end men’s shoe store next to the recently opened Tumi on H St NW in CityCenter. This will be the 2nd retailer to open in CityCenter so we bestow upon them the silver medal. [Washington Business Journal]
7) Longchamp (CityCenter) – Bids for a CityCenter shop build out requested. [Washington Business Journal]
8) Umaya Restaurant (733 10th St NW) – In what we call the Skanska building, Umaya is a Japanese restaurant venture that will be opened by the same owners as Cafe Asia. Early July 2014 is the quoted date. [Badwolf DC (Shaw)]
9) Marriott Marquis (901 Massachusetts Ave NW) – Opening May 1st, the “convention center” Marriott will feature multiple eating venues and lots of new rooms to support larger/more numerous conferences in downtown DC. We thought it interesting that the hotel’s homepage describes it as a “Penn Quarter” hotel. Well, they’re close. [WaPo] & [WaPo (photo gallery)] & [Marriott Marquis homepage]
10) Sports Zone Elite (675 H St NW) – Sports clothing and shoe retailer coming next to the Walgreens on H aside the 7th Street intersection (photo below). Spring 2014 is what’s on the sign. [Sports Zone Elite website]
