A Very Downtown Valentine’s Day
We’re sure many of you will head out and celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special person and will take that celebration downtown. We put together one possible Valentine’s Day evening for consideration.
- Meet at Barnes & Noble (555 12th Street, NW) while perusing the stacks.
- Walk up to The Oceanaire Seafood Room (1201 F Street, NW) for a romantic fresh seafood dinner.
- Argonautika at The Shakespeare Theatre (Lansburgh Theatre at 450 7th Street, NW) is another short walk away. Check out a few of the stores on F Street during your stroll to the theatre.
- Double back to get chocolate dessert and a nightcap at CoCo Sala (929 F Street, NW) which looks to open today (any reports on whether they did open today are encouraged).
- Bed down at The Monaco Hotel (700 F Street, NW) for the night.
Where will you go for Valentine’s Day downtown?

Yeah – i didn’t look in the window, but walked past on the other side of the street today and did not look like it was opening in the very near term.
A little bit outside whatever PQ’s boundaries are now, but: the lady and I went to Ceiba at 14th and NY for drinks and high-class pupusas (we ate them so fast, there wasn’t even time to grab a pic for the blog – did grab a shot of the neat bucket glasses, though). It was really, really tasty.
My pookie & I were planning to be all fancy & have dinner at Indeblue after our very non-romantic PSA 308 Meeting. Some confusion ensued as I reserved on opentable.com & was notified that they had an exorbitant Valentines Day menu at 95/per. But it wasnt specified that their regular menu was unavailable. Also they weren’t allowing any substitutions & both of us dont do seafood. We were really reluctant to pay that much for the vegetarian setup (or at all). They were very very nice and let us out of the reservation with no fuss or penalty. We left 20 for tip & found another place in PQ, no problem.
btw we are being invaded by Disney on Ice til the 18th:)
Went inside CoCo Sala yesterday, met the GM and and chatted with the owner. They are still working on the place and will expand with a private dining area next door – construction of that to begin after the restaurant opens. Late March is now the hoped-for opening date, but construction being what it is, I would never bet on a date that is more than a month into the future.

Re Co Co. Sala, I emailed the owners a week ago and was told that the opening has been delayed until March.
