Filmfest DC Opens Tonight – Six Film Venues In PQ!
Filmfest DC 2009 hosts its opening gala tonight @ 7pm at the Harman Center for the Arts, otherwise known as the beautiful new Shakespeare Theatre. The eleven day festival endeavors to look inside other cultures from the perspective of those who live there rather than through our media. This year’s festival focuses in on two geographic areas: Eastern Europe and Japan.
Of the nine screening venues, six of them are in the PQ (we’re adopting the nearby National Gallery of Art even though it isn’t really in the PQ).

It’s really a fun and festive event. After the showing of the film Departures, the reception will feature a buffet and also sushi.
I’m on the committee of DC Film Society that supports FilmFestDC and is our parent organization. DC Film Society shows preview screenings of mainstream, international, and independent films. Mostly at Regal’s Gallery Place 14 and Landmark’s E Street Cinema. We are accepting members again starting May 1st. Membership is a very low yearly fee. It would be fab to have more PQ residents and those who work in the area join
