FIOS…Not Too Far Away?
In July we griped a bit about the District’s not getting FIOS while many suburban jurisdictions are enjoying their superfast Internet, digital TV and voice service. According to a recent WaPo article, Verizon filed in August to provide television service in the District. Does this mean we’ll get FIOS sooner rather than later?

My understanding (from people inside Verizon FiOS) is that we’re not getting for a long time — probably at least a year and a half away. However, upper NW and downtown will be the first to be serviced due to high-end consumers and business demands.
The Comcast internet and cable service in my building – The Artisan – is disgracefully inconsistent. The Comcast customer service is consistently disgraceful. It is a regular topic of complaint on the group mail for our building, as well as at association meetings. FIOS would be a welcome change.
anything to give us an option for TV/internet other than Comcast, which I’m sure is one of the worst companies in America. the minute FIOS arrives – i’m already on the mailing list from Verizon – I will be terminating my service with Comcast. I do have to admit, however, that Comcast’s commercials are much better than Verizon’s.

all for additional service options, but not looking forward to streets being ripped up if that is required for them to lay additional cable.
