Ford’s Theatre To Reopen Feb 2009
After 18 months of downtime, construction fences, banging and hammering, Ford’s Theatre (511 10th St, NW) is set to host its reopening celebration starting February 11, 2009. We’re very eager to check out the newly installed seats!
A few highlights of that first week follow:
Feb 11 – Grand reopening celebration – George Lucas to receive Lincoln Medal
Feb 12 – Lincoln Bicentennial Commemoration
Feb 16 – Ford’s Theatre Open House, Lincoln birthday celebration and launch of new series titled “Living Lincoln”
Feb 17 – Timed entry tours of theater begin
The first two productions of the season are entitled “The Heavens Are Hung in Black” (world premiere) and “The Civil War.”
More detailed information will follow in a subsequent post…

Yes, the Ford’s theater will reopen for the 200th Lincoln birthday celebration. In addition to timed tickets, the museum on the lower level has been completely redone. A small gift and refreshment stand will be at street level, on the north side of the current entrance. And yes, there is FINALLY an elevator to the lower level. The number of seats in the theater has been reduced as more comfortable chairs have been installed (American’s have bigger bodies these days). Timed tickets can be purchased in advance for a small fee (like the Washington Monument).
BTW Did you know that the Jefferson Memorial was dedicated in 1943, the 200th anniversery of Jefferson’s birth?
